Fans of cozy mysteries love following an amateur sleuth as they seek justice through twists and turns with generous doses of humor throughout. If you’re looking for the perfect escape from reality you’ll love getting to the bottom of these books. Today, we’re going to highlight five cozy mysteries that have left Hidden Gems readers raving and begging for more.

Murder at the Manor

Murder at the Manor: A 1920s cozy mystery (A Tommy & Evelyn Christie Mystery Book 1) by Catherine Coles

Downton Abbey crossed with Murder, She Wrote…set in a Yorkshire village! A boring weekend away turns out to be anything but dull when Tommy’s unsuspecting uncle is shockingly murdered. Evelyn must use her sleuthing knowledge to find out what really happened. If you enjoy the glamour of bygone eras like 1920s Downton Abbey and gentle, cozy mysteries set in the English countryside then you will love this series starter from Catherine Coles.

“It is just so entertaining, it keeps you at the edge of your seat,” says Helen K Fernandez in her 5-star review. “I enjoyed this book so much. Evelyn’s personality is incredible and many of her traits are of a woman ahead of her time. I’m afraid I’m gonna give something away from the story, so I’m just gonna say that you HAVE to read. It will suck you in and you won’t want to put it down because it keeps you guessing in every turn and you won’t be able to figure it out, unless you’re closer to the end.”

Edna Hill writes in her 5-star review, “I loved this book. It was definitely a cross between Downton Abbey & Murder She Wrote but it was a good combination of the two. The author did a really good job of combining these two “eras” and making them work together. This is one of those books that is a joy to read on a stormy night. The author had it to where you were definitely pulled into the story and could not put the book down.”

Tracks and Flashbacks

Tracks and Flashbacks: Paranormal Cozy Mystery (Mitzy Moon Mysteries Book 9) by Trixie Silvertale

A real fan favorite amongst Hidden Gems readers! Many have been fortunate to read several of the Mitzy Moon Mysteries through our program and are always delighted to see a new title pop up from Trixie Silvertale.

Tracks and Flashbacks is the ninth book in this hilarious paranormal cozy mystery series.  If you like snarky heroines, supernatural intrigue, and a dash of romance, then you’ll love Silvertale’s twisty whodunit.

“Silvertale managed to deliver her best book yet, and that’s saying something, because the others were already so great!” writes Nadine Vrijhof in her 5-star review. “This book touched my heart in so many ways; it had me laughing, it had me crying, it had humor, it had depth, it had layers; it had everything! Some parts were so moving, so beautiful, that I couldn’t help but cry. Other parts were laugh out loud funny, I laughed out loud so many times! And the rest in between had so many subtle and not-so-subtle moments of humor that I smiled throughout the whole book. When I wasn’t crying, that is; and those moments were all related to Mitzy losing her Mama when she was 11 years old. A very impressive story. Mitzy’s extrasensory perception makes the whole story even more interesting.”

In his 5-star review, John L. says, “This ninth book in the Mitzy Moon Mysteries Series by Trixie Silvertale does not disappoint the reader in terms of snarkiness, hilarity, love, danger, and even some sadness as Mitzy and her too-hot-to-handle beau of a sheriff head on out to Arizona to work on solving the murder of her mother which she has discovered was covered up. The hilarity of the exchanges between Mitzy and her ghostma are superbly entertaining as always. And, of course, this story expands on the slowly developing love story between Mitzy and her hottie boyfriend. This book also features Pyewacket the cat as being more involved which helps further one of the paranormal aspects of the book, in addition to Mitzy’s special talents. I am so looking forward to reading #10.”

Sweet Saboteur

Sweet Saboteur (The Cozy Café Mysteries Book 1) by C.A. Phipps

Sweet Saboteur is the first book in The Cozy Café Mysteries series. These mysteries are light, featuring a family-focused café owner who discovers she’s a talented amateur sleuth—and a magnet for animals.
Scarlett’s passion is The Cozy Café and she’s determined to turn things around and give her family a better life. But when a murder in Cozy Hollow points to the café as a likely cause, she must put all fears aside to solve the mystery before everything she’s fought to keep is lost—or worse!

“I recommend this book to cozy mystery readers, especially those that enjoy a culinary storyline,” says Karen Siddall in her 5 star review. “The three sisters, Scarlett, Violet, and Ruby are all sweet, go-getters that I could really get behind. They’ve had a rough time of it, losing both parents as well as caring for their mother during her long illness leading up to her death. None has been able to spread their wings and fly free, and now, due to circumstances, they are tied to a life that only one of the sisters finds desirable. But, they have a strong love for each other and a reasonably good support system helping them hang in there in their Aunt Olivia and the townspeople who have known them all their lives. The author provides a number of recipes for some delicious sounding sweets at the end of the book.”

“I love it when I find a wonderful new cozy mystery series!” writes Alice Hazelbaker in her 5-star review. Scarlett, Violet and Ruby have inherited their mother’s bakery upon her death, and are struggling to make ends meet as they pay off their mom’s medical bills. To make matters worse, the Mayor seems to have a vendetta against them and seems to be deliberately trying to force them to leave town. When Mabel, the town librarian is found dead while eating a cupcake, the Mayor does everything to ensure that blame falls on the bakery, stating that the cupcake was poisoned. One thing after another seems to be pointing at the three sisters, not helping their business at all! So Scarlett decides she needs to investigate to prove their innocence. Is it possible that the cat, George, they seem to have inherited upon Mabel’s death is pointing them toward clues? A “sweet” cozy mystery that will keep you reading till the surprising end!”

I LOVED each book and I highly recommend! Wish I could give more than 5 Stars!”

“A complex mystery with unexpected twists that is brought to a satisfying conclusion,” says Kristy Dark in her 5-star review. “Quirky characters. Fun references to Sherlock Holmes stories. A low level of violence, which should appeal to cozy readers.”

Cupcakes and Chaos

Cupcakes & Chaos (Frosted Misfortunes Mysteries Book 1) by Lisa Siefert

Lisa Siefert brings readers a delicious cozy mystery in Cupcakes & Chaos. Amateur sleuth and forensic accountant turned pastry chef, Ava, is also the prime suspect in the murder of a bakery owner.

I LOVE this book and highly recommend it. I’ll be on the look out for upcoming adventures in this series.”
