Author Accelerator Sessions

The goal of Hidden Gems has always been to provide on-going support for authors in their quest to achieve self-publishing success. For the most part, we’ve achieved that through a combination of our services, as well as our regular author focused blog posts and podcasts.
However, while using our platform as a megaphone to broadcast tips and tricks to the community can be helpful to some, there are others that benefit more from the back-and-forth that comes from being part of a more collaborative community of peers that regularly share their goals, successes, failures and the lessons they’ve learned.
It was being part of a thriving and close knit author community that accelerated the writing careers of both Craig and Roland, bringing them to levels of success that would have taken far longer, if at all, than if they had been forced to figure it all out themselves.
Author Accelerator Sessions are our attempt to bring that experience to authors today. Through regular live (virtual) collaboration sessions, Craig and Roland will help guide a group of authors through a variety of topics, as well as allow for the group to share and learn from each other. Depending on your interests, there are three different sessions to choose from, or you can even sign up for them all.
These types of sessions are fantastic for on-going learning, meeting other writers, asking questions of us or your peers, getting feedback on your current projects, hearing from occasional guest speakers, and so much more.

Author Accelerator Sessions: General Details

  • Each session is approximately an hour long and led by either Craig or Roland
  • Sessions are run via Google Meet, at set dates and times published ahead of time
  • Each session will be recorded and available for a limited time so that they can be watched by anyone that missed it
  • There are 3 groups of sessions to choose between, based on topic. Authors choose the type of sessions they are interested in, and will be invited to attend all the sessions for that group. Each group will hold a session every 2 weeks.
  • The day you sign up, you get the remainder of that month for free with billing beginning the following month.
    • For example, whether you signed up on Dec 5th or Dec 29th, you would be able to attend the remaining Dec sessions for free (if there are any left), as well as access any available recordings for that month, and then you would start paying on Jan 1
  • Subscription payments are deducted on the first of the month and cover the current month. You may cancel your subscription at any time, which will stop any future payments (but will not refund any payments already made). Once you cancel, your access to the groups and recordings will remain until the end of the month, and then access to everything will be removed on the first day of the following month.

Author Accelerator Groups

All groups will follow the same overall format, with discussions being led by Craig or Roland with authors encouraged to participate, ask questions, share knowledge, etc.* Sometimes there may be guest speakers invited to talk about a specific topic that they are experts on. Participants can feel free to suggest topics of interest for future sessions.

Topics and times will be posted ahead of time, but those that cannot attend live will have access to the recordings.

* Session formats, topics, and other aspects of this service are subject to change based on feedback and discussion with the groups. These sessions may evolve with the needs of the community, and this page will reflect the latest as closely as possible.

Group 1 - Book Marketing, Advertising & Promotion - Led by Roland Hulme

Our marketing expert will guide accelerator members through the various tips, tricks and best practices of marketing, advertising and promotion. Whether he walks you through the complicated Facebook ad interface or teaches you how to set up and effectively use Amazon Attribution tags, there will be plenty to learn in these sessions.

Group 2 - General Self-Publishing Tips - Led by Craig Tuch and/or Roland Hulme

Depending on the topic, you may see Craig, Roland, or even both of us leading these sessions. This group is meant to cover topics of general interest to self-publishers, covering things cover design, effective blurb writing, setting goals (and meeting them), social media tips, new services and tools available to self-publishers (and whether they’re worth it), etc. Authors will be encouraged to share and give feedback to the group as much as possible so that we can all learn from each other.

Group 3 - AI for Authors - Led by Craig Tuch

The world of AI is evolving at a breakneck pace, with new features and tools coming out weekly. While many authors are still on the fence about AI, others are seeing the benefits and want to learn more. These sessions will focus on ways to use AI as an assistant, to help ease your workload, as well as evaluate the various AI models, tools, and services to determine what is right for you and how they can be leveraged within your workflows.
